Communicate YOURSELF!

For the self/group video there were four themes; they included separation, politics, abstract and communication. Within separation the group has to “show something that denotes alienation or separation.” Within politics the group has to “show something that denotes or represents political believes; this can show something that is not a ‘political party’ based, but more of a political dynamic. This can be the politics of being a college student, of socializing in the job market etc. Within the abstract group, the group has to “show something that deviates from reality and is somewhat surreal in nature.” Within communication the group has to visually communicate a form of communication.” For the group assignment communication was assigned to Shylande, Jessica, Alexis and Zack. As a group we chose to portray story, taking inspiration from the stages of grief to communicate how many students feel when they have assignments due; titling the assignment due date. The stages represented wer...

Twist and Curl Wikihow

Wikihow is a online website that helps provide the steps to do/ complete anything you can possibly think of. Topics range from hair tutorials, how to maintain clear skin, how to create a new wardrobe, how to take care of a pet, how to work softwares, how to get rid of a cold, but also conventional topics like how to fix a flat tire or anything that may be broken. For the class assignment for COM 336, students were instructed to create a wikihow page, which can also be known as a tutorial. The instructions were to create a fresh and original idea while also creating steps that anyone can follow; whether they have prior knowledge or not. For this wikihow the focus was on a twist and curl hairstyle; a multiple step process where you stretch/ style the hair in two ways to elongate the hair against its natural shrinkage. Within this two part styling process the first part showcased styling the hair in two strand twist, while the second part showcases wrapping the twist into permrods, wh...

With the age of Web 2.0 came the advancement of custom search engines and communication making it easier to solve any question anyone may have. The internet is flooded with tutorials showcasing how to make foods, do hairstyles, meet new people, paint and more; the possibilities are endless, but there are still many topics that have no tutorials published online. To cater to this predicament, producing Wikihow pages that have not been published on the website can possibly help someone in the future. Firstly, there are no Wikihow pages dedicated to designing accessories on Adobe Illustrator. There are many published Wikihow pages on how to design clothes and croquis but none dedicated on how to design accessories through computer aided design. Within the fashion industry today many design companies are moving from paper illustration to computer aided design (including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.), so it is important to grow with the industry. From the techniques I will prov...

A new world!

My first use of the internet was geared towards learning, playing dress up games, and creating characters in virtual worlds. In elementary school we were introduced to the internet as an alternative learning source through games to make the process more engaging and fun. The games varied in activities from math, science, reading, writing, vocabulary as well as games just for fun. One of my favorite games from that time (on the school allowed websites) was a math game where you had to solve all the problems to advance through, and if you didn’t, you would lose parts of your life for each incorrect answer. Years ago, around this same time, I would wake up enthusiastic on weekends because that was when my parents allowed us to go online for recreational use. I played games on Nickelodeon and Disney websites, dress up on Myscene, Star Doll and created characters in animated virtual worlds such as Meez and Millsberry. As I grew older and the internet blossomed, I started to use social me...
